iPhone 6 Touch ID sensor

Summer is halfway over now, which means we're getting closer to finding out what the iPhone 6 will really look like — but one thing's for sure, it's going to have Touch ID, which will be tweaked slightly from the current version.

MacRumors reported Wednesday
that the forthcoming iPhone 6 could have a slightly different design for the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which is also expected to make its way to the iPad Air and iPad mini product lines.

According to Nowhereelse.fr (via Google Translate), the alleged iPhone 6 Touch ID sensor (shown above at bottom, alongside the same part from an iPhone 5s) relocates the screw holes used to mount the component to the metal housing, while otherwise remaining mostly similar to the current version.

In addition to the iPhone 6, supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is also said to be providing Touch ID sensors for the rumored iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, which are said to be more "durable" than the first-generation components used in the iPhone 5s.

The original report also claims "engineers at Cupertino have made some technical improvements to this new generation" of Touch ID sensors, although it doesn't elaborate on what those changes might bring to end users.
